Cybertruck warranty excludes off-road damage, unlike Model Y

Tesla clarifies Cybertruck warranty: no coverage for off-road damage, sun exposure or Powershare use, while Model Y/X can leave pavement without losing coverage

Tesla has officially made clear that the Cybertruck is less suited to off-road use than the Model Y. The warranty states that any damage caused by driving on rough or unpaved surfaces is not covered. For a pickup promoted as the most durable vehicle on Earth, that reads like a disclaimer that undercuts its tough-guy image.

What makes the contrast sharper is that Model Y and Model X are allowed to go off public roads without losing warranty coverage. One Cybertruck owner has already been refused a repair: the company pointed to his social media posts mentioning an off-road trip, even though the damage wasn’t related to that outing.

Beyond rough terrain, the warranty also excludes damage from prolonged sun exposure, and even from using the pickup as a power source via the Powershare system.

Despite promises of an off-road monster, the Cybertruck comes across as more of an urban hero. With limits like these, Tesla risks turning buyers away—especially when a less expensive Model Y can at least leave the pavement without jeopardizing coverage.
