NHTSA: Ford recalling 175,000 Expedition, Navigator and F-Series over sunroof wind deflector that may detach. Free dealer inspection and repair at no charge.

Ford is recalling nearly 175,000 vehicles in the United States over a potential sunroof issue, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported. The concern centers on a wind deflector mounted ahead of the panoramic roof that could detach.

The campaign covers Ford Expedition SUVs, the premium Lincoln Navigator, and F-Series pickups. Regulators noted that at higher speeds the deflector may separate from the body, creating a hazard for other road users.

Ford said owners will receive notifications, and authorized dealers will perform a complimentary inspection and, if needed, replace the mounting hardware at no charge.

The move is another reminder of quality troubles that have dogged Ford in recent years. The automaker has previously recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicles over transmission, electrical, and suspension defects. Recalls are part of modern carmaking, but their cadence can test customer patience; a component that can break loose at highway speed is precisely the kind of problem that unnerves drivers.

Even so, Ford maintains that customer safety remains its priority. The checks and repairs will be carried out free of charge at Ford and Lincoln service centers, and swift communication with owners should help keep confidence intact as vehicles head in for service.
