Audi announced that the E5 Sportback — the first production model from the AUDI brand developed for China — has been named China Car of the Year 2026. Selected by industry media observers, the award marks a notable milestone for a marque that is only a year old.
The electric four-door fastback blends Audi’s engineering with digital features tuned to the Chinese market. It has already emerged as a standout in the premium space, having earlier collected several industry honors for design, driving performance, and intelligent systems.

The E5 Sportback is offered with four powertrain configurations, including rear- and all-wheel drive. Peak output reaches 579 kW, the 0–100 km/h sprint takes 3.4 seconds, and range extends up to 770 km. The new ADP architecture supports enhanced connectivity and regular over-the-air updates.
The recognition reflects a balanced design, precise handling, and a thoughtfully executed interior finished in premium materials. Standard equipment includes modern driver assistance features and upgraded active safety systems. The whole package comes across as well-judged, prioritizing polish and confidence alongside pace.
The AUDI brand was officially launched in Shanghai in November 2024. E5 Sportback production began in the summer of 2025 at a new facility, with sales starting in the fall. The lineup will expand in 2026 with the E7X production crossover based on the E-SUV concept.
