Spy shots reveal the 2027 Volkswagen ID.3 facelift with a redesigned front, revived physical controls, improved batteries and faster charging. Unveils late 2026.
Volkswagen’s ID.3, which debuted in 2019, won’t move to a new generation; instead, the brand is preparing a comprehensive facelift slated for 2027. Fresh spy shots from winter testing suggest the changes will go far beyond the three-year-old refresh: engineers are effectively redrawing the entire front module.
Observers noticed the current headlights are just stickers. The real units sit deeper and echo the look of the upcoming ID. Polo, with a new light signature, a slim illuminated bar, and revised geometry. The front bumper is camouflaged as well: much of the 'grille' and the vertical elements recall the ID.3 GTX, but that’s a decoy — the production car will wear a different, noticeably more elegant face.
Changes at the rear are subtler: the taillamps and body shapes are retained, while the palette of paints and wheel designs will expand. The big step forward is the cabin. Responding to criticism, Volkswagen is bringing back physical controls — conventional buttons on the steering wheel, straightforward window switches, and a full climate-control panel. The 13-inch display stays, with a more user-friendly interface to simplify everyday use.
The hardware evolves too: expect a new battery range with higher capacity and faster charging. Base versions will use LFP batteries, while pricier trims get improved lithium-ion packs. Electric-motor efficiency will rise across the board, including on the sporty ID.3 GTX — a pragmatic split that fits the model’s brief.
The updated ID.3 will be unveiled at the end of 2026, with sales starting in early 2027.
