Ford Racing may unveil road-going Cobra or Boss Mustang at the 2026 Detroit Auto Show
Insider report hints Ford Racing will debut new Ford Mustang models at the 2026 Detroit Auto Show, possibly reviving the Cobra or Boss nameplate. Road debut.
The swirl around the Ford Mustang is picking up again: an insider report suggests that at the 2026 Detroit Auto Show (January 14–25) the carmaker could roll out two fresh entries under the Ford Racing banner, with one supposedly tied to the resurrection of the storied Cobra or Boss nameplate. Nothing is official yet, but the venue feels right—Ford has been aligning its motorsport push and key unveilings with Detroit week, and the timing seems deliberate.
The recent rebrand only muddies the waters. Ford Performance is now Ford Racing, a move that folds factory racing programs and street-focused performance models under one roof. In that setup, a project billed as a new Cobra could just as easily be a track-only special. Even so, sources point specifically to a road-going premiere in January.
