2026 Genesis G80 earns IIHS Top Safety Pick+, excelling in crash tests but flagged for headlight visibility, LATCH access, and high‑speed crash prevention.

The U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2026 Genesis G80 its highest accolade, Top Safety Pick+. The sedan earned strong ratings in all major crash tests, including frontal and side impacts as well as roof-strength evaluations, underscoring its core protection.

Front crash prevention

In IIHS evaluations, the front crash prevention system performed as expected in scenarios with pedestrians and passenger cars at low speeds. At higher speeds, however, it was less effective when closing in on a large truck or a motorcycle. For drivers who spend more time on highways, that distinction is worth noting.

IIHS observations

The institute also pointed to the LED headlights, stating that visibility on gentle and sharp left-hand curves was insufficient on both low and high beams. The LATCH child-seat system received an average rating because the lower anchors are hard to reach and require significant force during installation. These are fixable details that can disproportionately influence confidence after dark and when fitting a child seat.

Even with those caveats, the G80 remains a key player among executive sedans and is among the 2026 models focused on high levels of passive and active safety. Production takes place in Ulsan, South Korea.
