Radar launches King Kong and Horizon PHEV 4WD pickups: AWD on Thor EM-P, up to 1,068 km range, tuned for high altitude performance and cold starts at -30°C.

On January 1, Radar opened sales of two new all-wheel-drive hybrid pickups: the Radar King Kong PHEV 4WD Mountain Edition priced at 139,800 yuan and the Radar Horizon PHEV 4WD Cold Edition at 151,800 yuan. The launch comes with brand-backed offers, including trade-in programs, financing incentives, extended warranties, charging bonuses, and a service package.

Both models are built on Geely’s Thor EM-P super-hybrid system and are tailored for demanding conditions where conventional gasoline and diesel pickups often show their limits. The Mountain Edition is aimed at high-altitude work: a 1.5-liter turbo engine pairs with two electric motors to create a three-source AWD setup. The spec sheet lists 260 kW of maximum output and 914 Nm of peak torque, with wheel torque rated at 8,620 Nm. Thanks to revised intake components and enhanced motor thermal control, the truck is said to maintain 95% of its performance at 3,800 meters and in cold weather. Even fully loaded, it is designed to tackle gradients of up to 55%. The numbers suggest a focus on real climbing ability rather than just headline power.

The Horizon Cold Edition targets deep-winter use. It matches the Mountain model on power and torque but shifts emphasis to control on ice and stability during launches and hill starts. For sub-zero climates, it features battery insulation, refined cold-start logic, and an updated thermal system. The company states it can start at minus 30 degrees Celsius on the first attempt without preheating, and it also highlights fast-charging capability in below-freezing temperatures. The calibration hints at confidence on slick surfaces where traction and predictability matter more than outright output.

In both cases, Radar claims a combined fuel-and-battery driving range of up to 1,068 km, along with three operating modes: pure electric, series (range-extender), and a blended gasoline-plus-electric setting. That flexibility should help drivers adapt to terrain, weather, and payload without sacrificing efficiency.
