Lucid Project Midsize: $50k electric crossover to rival Model Y

Lucid reveals Project Midsize, a $50k electric crossover to challenge Model Y, launching in 2026 with NVIDIA DRIVE Thor and ambitions for Level 4 autonomy.

Lucid Motors has released the first teaser for its new electric crossover, codenamed Project Midsize, a model positioned to go head-to-head with the Tesla Model Y. Production is slated to begin in 2026, and the base price is expected to land around $50,000—a deliberate step toward the mainstream market.

The silhouette echoes the larger Lucid Gravity but reads as tighter and more athletic. There’s a swept roofline, clean surfacing, and conventional door handles instead of pop-out units. The crossover will ride on a new midsize EV platform engineered for high-volume manufacturing at the AMP-2 plant in Saudi Arabia. The restrained design and hardware choices hint at a focus on practicality without losing the brand’s premium feel.

The technology centerpiece is Lucid’s collaboration with NVIDIA. This will be the first model to adopt the DRIVE AGX Thor computing platform, integrating AI processing with lidar, radar, and cameras. The system is intended to enable Level 4 autonomous capability—operation that doesn’t require hands on the wheel or constant driver oversight—and represents an evolution of Lucid’s DreamDrive Pro suite.

Lucid also plans to use NVIDIA Omniverse for digital simulation of its production processes, a move aimed at cutting costs and speeding the rollout of new models. For a midsize crossover intended for scale, that kind of virtual tooling can be as impactful as the hardware itself.

Project Midsize is designed to open the brand to a broader audience and become Lucid’s most attainable SUV, blending premium cues, advanced tech, and performance. If the company delivers on these promises, the debut could end up being one of the standout EV launches of the decade.
