2025-2026 Ford Maverick recall over passenger airbag trim
Ford recalls 6,897 2025-2026 Maverick pickups for a passenger-side airbag trim defect; see build dates, VIN indicator, root cause and timeline details.
Ford has identified a defect in a limited batch of 2025 and 2026 Maverick pickups. The issue involves the passenger-side upper instrument panel trim: according to the company, the bond at the vibration-welded joint between the trim and the passenger airbag chute door may be insufficient. In a crash, that piece could detach, increasing the risk of injury. A small component, but critical when safety systems deploy.
Ford ties the root cause to processes at supplier International Automotive Components. Cited factors include friction mat misalignment during welding, temporary drops in hydraulic clamp force and amplitude due to power fluctuations, and elevated shop temperatures that may have affected bond quality. The problem surfaced after an internal Maverick test, which Ford learned about on October 15, 2025, and the company notes there have been no real-world reports of the trim separating. Taken together, the list points to manufacturing variability rather than a fundamental design flaw.
The remedy is straightforward: service centers will replace the suspect panel pieces with corrected parts. Dealers were notified on December 19, 2025. Owners are slated to receive interim letters starting January 19, 2026, with repair instructions to follow no later than February 13, 2026. The timeline suggests a clear path to resolution and timely communication.
The recall covers vehicles built from August 7 to September 5, 2025, at the Hermosillo plant in Mexico. As an indicator, their VINs begin with '3'. In the United States, the campaign includes 6,897 trucks—a narrowly defined window that should help dealers quickly identify affected vehicles.
