JAOS unveils seven SUV builds at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, from RAV4 to Land Cruiser. See the Baja-tested Lexus GX550h and a market shift to capable off-roaders.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 is shaping up to spotlight off-road trends, and JAOS plans to make the most of it. The Japanese maker of SUV and 4WD accessories will present seven customized vehicles, showing what a modern off-roader can be—from compact models to serious expedition machines.

At the main stand in Hall 8, visitors will be greeted by the Toyota RAV4, Mitsubishi Delica D:5, and a Nissan X-Trail in Rock Creek guise, each reworked in JAOS’ signature style. These builds aim at buyers who want everyday usability without giving up the freedom to leave the pavement when the opportunity arises.

A particular highlight will be the Lexus GX550h OVERTRAIL Team JAOS 2025—a race-bred machine that took on the Baja 1000, one of the toughest contests in the world. It became the first hybrid to finish the marathon and secured second place in its class.

Next door in Hall 7, JAOS will lean into the segment’s variety. On display will be the Toyota Land Cruiser 250, Subaru Forester, and the compact Mitsubishi Delica Mini. The message is clear: off-road attitude and functional upgrades matter not only for large SUVs but also for more attainable models. For the market, it’s a telling signal—demand for “prepped” versions is growing, and buyers are increasingly seeking individuality right at the point of purchase. That lineup reads as a deliberate nod to the way customers now balance practicality with character.

The JAOS showing at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 suggests the era of purely urban SUVs is on the wane. Shoppers are once again prioritizing durability, visual toughness, and genuine capability. Judging by the interest in the Land Cruiser 250 and the Lexus GX that tackled Baja, this shift is only gaining momentum—it feels less like a fad and more like a recalibration of what an SUV should be.
