Hyundai Motor Group tops IIHS rankings again as 21 Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models earn Top Safety Pick and TSP+ honors, led by Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9 as well.

For the second year running, Hyundai Motor Group leads the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s rankings for the most vehicles earning top safety marks. In the latest round of evaluations, 21 models from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis picked up Top Safety Pick Plus and Top Safety Pick honors.

Eighteen models achieved the TSP+ rating, surpassing last year’s count. Among them are the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and flagship Ioniq 9, as well as the Kia EV9, Sorento, and Sportage, plus several Genesis entries including the G80 and GV80. Three more vehicles, including the Hyundai Palisade, received Top Safety Pick awards.

IIHS noted that the large electric SUVs Ioniq 9 and EV9 earned the highest scores in every category, from frontal and side impacts to collision-avoidance performance. The E-GMP platform played a key role by managing crash energy effectively and delivering strong occupant protection.

Importantly, these ratings were awarded under tougher, updated criteria that strengthen assessments of rear-seat passenger safety. IIHS experts emphasized that the results reinforce Hyundai Motor Group’s standing as a maker of some of the safest passenger cars. The consistency across so many nameplates hints at a safety-first approach embedded in the lineup, not just a few standouts.
