BMW will expand Neue Klasse iX3 production to Mexico's San Luis Potosi in 2027, alongside output in Hungary and China; U.S. units to ship from Debrecen in 2026.

BMW is preparing to expand production of the new iX3: beyond Hungary and China, the electric crossover on the Neue Klasse platform is set to gain another site—the San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico. According to industry insiders, assembly there is slated to begin in August 2027, which neatly aligns with deliveries before the end of 2027.

For now, the second-generation iX3 is tied to BMW’s new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, yet the company is steadily spreading output across regions. The long-wheelbase version for China is planned to hit the line in Shenyang as early as May 2026. In effect, the iX3 is becoming a model around which BMW is building a global manufacturing matrix, aiming to react faster to demand and local requirements.

The Mexican-built iX3 will be assembled alongside the 2 Series Coupe and M2, which are planned to remain in production until the second half of 2029. The 3 Series is also produced there today, and the next generation of the sedan is expected to be assembled in San Luis Potosí as well. The plant has been operating since 2019, is rated for roughly 175,000 vehicles a year, and has already turned out about half a million cars.

That said, for the U.S. market the iX3 is set to continue coming from Hungary in the near term: production for America is expected to start in spring 2026, with deliveries in the summer.
