Ford to launch all-new hybrid SUV for Europe in 2026
Ford readies a new SUV for Europe in 2026, replacing Focus and EcoSport. Built in Spain, it will offer EcoBoost MHEV and FHEV hybrids, Bronco badge likely.
Ford is preparing a sweeping refresh of its European lineup, and the move that will define it arrives in 2026: a completely new SUV set to take over from the discontinued Focus while also succeeding the EcoSport. For the brand, this will be one of the headline debuts of the year and a pivotal model for the region.
The newcomer won’t be an electric vehicle. Ford has stepped back from earlier all-in EV ambitions and is leaning on proven hardware instead. Expect gasoline EcoBoost engines paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid MHEV system, alongside self-charging hybrid variants labeled HEV—referred to by the company as FHEV. A fully electric version is not on the agenda. The strategy reads as a pragmatic bet: familiarity and maturity over splashy specs, aimed at buyers who want efficiency without changing their routines.
Early signals suggest the SUV could wear the Bronco name, long associated with Ford’s off-road lineage. If that badge is chosen, the Bronco currently sold in Europe would leave the market. The new model is designed for the volume segment, positioned to fill the gap left by the Focus—a clear attempt to channel strong name recognition into broad appeal rather than niche capability.
Production is slated for Spain at Ford’s Almussafes plant, which already builds the Kuga. Anchoring the project in an established facility should help the car fit neatly into the brand’s European footprint.
The reveal is expected in the first half of 2026, setting the stage for one of Ford’s most consequential launches of the year in Europe.
