BMW quietly ends production of the 8 Series coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe, and drops X4. No direct 8 Series successor; iX4 and Neue Klasse take priority.

BMW has ended production of the 8 Series coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe, as well as the X4. The models were quietly removed from the lineup in December 2025 without any official announcement.

The second-generation 8 Series debuted in 2018 as the de facto successor to the 6 Series. It was offered in three body styles with gasoline engines: the inline-six 840i, a V8 in the M850i, and a higher-output V8 in the M8 with roughly 600 hp. A diesel 840d was also available. With no hybrid or electric variants, the 8 Series stood apart from BMW’s wider push into electrification and ultimately remained a niche proposition without a follow-up.

A direct successor to the 8 Series is not planned for now. The company allows that a halo coupe could appear in the future, but the priority remains the Neue Klasse lineup—clear proof of where development resources are headed.

At the same time, the BMW X4 has left the range. Unlike the 8 Series, a replacement is expected: the electric iX4, which will join the lineup alongside the iX3, signaling that the coupe-SUV formula continues in battery-powered form.
