Spy shots confirm Genesis GV90 electric SUV gets a steering-wheel shifter and pillarless rear-hinged doors, backed by patents, with launch expected in 2026.

Genesis has revealed a new interior detail of its flagship electric SUV, the GV90: spy photos of a prototype show a gear selector mounted on the steering wheel. The design closely follows the Neolun concept that underpins the production model, and the brand’s patent filings corroborate the decision.

The GV90 also stands apart with an unconventional body layout. The SUV will feature pillarless, rear-hinged doors—an approach rarely seen even in the premium segment. To support it, Genesis has developed a complex multi-layer sealing system that delivers airtightness, noise isolation, and weather protection comparable to traditional body structures. For a flagship, it feels like a bold move executed with methodical care.

Patents describe rear-hinged doors with separate soft-close units, dedicated guides, and protection against sagging. This architecture is designed to preserve structural rigidity and precise closing despite the larger door dimensions. Additional solutions include specialized locks and mechanisms that gently pull the doors shut.

The Genesis GV90 will be fully electric and take its place as the brand’s flagship. It is intended to compete with ultra-luxury SUVs and strengthen the marque’s global position. The model is expected to join the crop of new cars in 2026 and serve as a technology showcase for Genesis.
