Stretched Tesla Model Y L headed for Europe with 88 kWh pack and up to 681 km WLTP range

Tesla may launch the stretched Model Y L in Europe with 88 kWh, up to 681 km WLTP and a six-seat layout, aiming for a 2026 debut and a mild price premium.

Tesla may bring the stretched Model Y L to the European market, a version that is already on sale in China. Reports say the China-built model has secured European type approval, which makes a launch in the EU a matter of timing. Internally, this variant is associated with the codename NV80.

The European edition’s headline change is a larger battery. While China’s car is listed with a pack based on 4,416 cells, Europe is reportedly set to get 4,600 cells for a total capacity of about 88 kWh. On that basis, the range is projected to reach up to 681 km under the WLTP cycle—potentially the best figure in the Model Y lineup in Europe, where the current Long Range RWD tops out at around 622 km. If these numbers hold, the Y L would become the range leader without altering the model’s core formula.

The capacity bump goes hand in hand with size. In China, the Model Y L measures around 4.98 meters in length—roughly 18 centimeters longer than a standard Model Y. A stretched wheelbase boosts cabin space and allows for a more comfortable six-seat layout, the kind of packaging that should make long trips less tiring and daily use more relaxed.

There’s no official on-sale date or pricing yet, though a start in the first quarter of 2026 is being discussed. By analogy with China, where the L version is roughly 8% pricier than the top Model Y, Europe can expect a premium over current levels if Tesla does choose to broaden the lineup to lift sales. The strategy points to a pragmatic expansion: more range and room, without reinventing a successful formula.
