2026 Toyota 4Runner: nine trims, hybrid i-FORCE MAX, price and off-road tech
Discover the updated 2026 Toyota 4Runner: 9 trims from SR5 to Trailhunter, turbo or i-FORCE MAX hybrid (326 hp), 4WD options, features, starting at $41,570.
Toyota has unveiled the updated 2026 4Runner in the United States—the successor to the Hilux Surf familiar to Russian buyers. It’s the second year of this generation, and the SUV now arrives in nine distinct trims spanning premium and hard-core off-road flavors. The lineup breadth alone suggests a carefully targeted offering, and the base price starts at $41,570.
Two powertrains are on the menu: a 2.4-liter turbocharged i-FORCE gasoline engine rated at 278 hp and the i-FORCE MAX hybrid with 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Both promise respectable efficiency for a large SUV—up to 26 MPG on the highway for the gasoline version and up to 24 MPG for the hybrid—figures that look well balanced for everyday use and long hauls alike.

The range includes SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and the flagship Trailhunter. The Trailhunter is built for overlanding, with reinforced Old Man Emu shocks, 33-inch tires, an onboard compressor, bronze wheels, an ARB roof rack, and a signature grille with LED illumination. The TRD Pro also pairs with the hybrid system and adds Fox QS3 shocks adjustable to match the surface—equipment that reads purpose-built rather than merely cosmetic.
In the Platinum trim, the 4Runner is positioned as a bona fide luxury SUV, bringing leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, a head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, and an expanded safety suite—features that shift the model firmly into the premium lane.
There are three driveline choices: rear-wheel drive, a part-time four-wheel-drive setup, and a full-time 4WD system with a locking function. All hybrid versions come exclusively with 4WD. The model has clearly strengthened its off-road credentials and now stands among the key players in America’s segment of classic body-on-frame SUVs.
