New Renault Grand Kangoo for Japan: longer, 7 seats, modular interior
Renault Japan reveals the Grand Kangoo, a longer 7-seat family van with sliding/removable seats, 1.3-liter turbo and 7-speed EDC. Specs in Jan 2026, sales Feb.
Renault Japan has officially announced the new Grand Kangoo—the extended version of the brand’s popular family van with seating for seven. Built on the standard Kangoo, it gains a longer wheelbase and overall length, along with a thoroughly reworked interior. The second and third rows are individual seats that can slide, fold, or be removed entirely, making the Grand Kangoo far more adaptable. That modularity is what makes a family hauler genuinely useful day to day.
On the outside, it retains the signature split rear doors and black bumpers—details that set this variant apart and emphasize its practical brief. Under the hood is a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a 7-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission. For stability on slippery roads, there’s Extended Grip and 16-inch all-season tires. A new Sahara Beige shade joins the palette. The combination reads as deliberately utilitarian, with the fresh color adding a touch of warmth without chasing trends.

In Japanese social media, the announcement sparked a rush of enthusiasm: commenters said they had been waiting for it for years, felt it was long overdue, and were eager to try it. Many praised the larger dimensions and the front-end design, while some asked for a diesel engine and a manual transmission. The split between practicality and enthusiast wishes is telling—size and flexibility win hearts, yet a subset still longs for traditional powertrain choices.
Detailed specifications and pricing will be announced in January 2026, with sales slated to begin in February.
