Volkswagen ID. ERA: lidar and Xingyun NOA teased ahead of a fully electric debut

SAIC Volkswagen has shown the front end of its first fully electric ID. ERA model, confirming lidar and the Xingyun driver-assist system while key specs stay under wraps.
SAIC Volkswagen has shown the front end of the first fully electric model in the ID. ERA family. The newcomer will reportedly get a lidar and the Xingyun suite with navigation assistance on city streets and highways, though its name and core specifications remain under wraps.
The teaser shows a closed-off front panel, a slim LED light bar and an illuminated Volkswagen badge. Visually the car resembles the ID. ERA 9X, but it uses a different powertrain: the 9X runs a gasoline engine as a generator, while the new model will be a pure battery-electric vehicle.
The Xingyun system is expected to support city and highway NOA, automated parking, and door-to-door navigation between parking spots. Lidar helps the car recognize obstacles more precisely, though this remains a driver-assist system rather than full self-driving.
The key parameters are still unknown. Volkswagen has not disclosed battery capacity, power output, range, platform voltage or fast-charging time. Without this data, comparing the newcomer to Chinese electric crossovers is premature.
For reference, the already-launched ID. ERA 9X comes with 51.1 or 65.2 kWh battery options. Its electric range reaches 406 km, with a combined range of 1,651 km on the CLTC cycle, and its driver-assist system uses a 192-line lidar.
Volkswagen had planned to launch six new electrified SAIC Volkswagen models in China in 2026, four of them from the ID. ERA family. The lineup is meant to combine electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and series hybrids.
The reveal date and sales plans for the new electric model outside China have not yet been disclosed.
