Leapmotor A05: entry-level EV promises 510 km of range and Snapdragon 8295 tech

Leapmotor's A05 EV comes in two versions with up to 510 km of CLTC range, a Snapdragon 8295 chip and optional LiDAR. Pre-orders are open for 99 yuan.
The Leapmotor A05 will come in two noticeably different versions, and the choice between them isn't just about an extra 105 km of range. The base electric car gets a 39.8 kWh battery and a 70 kW (95 hp) motor. The higher trim gets a 53 kWh battery and a 90 kW (122 hp) motor.
Battery capacity grows by roughly 33%, while the claimed range grows by only 26%, from 405 to 510 km. That works out to an estimated consumption of about 9.8 and 10.4 kWh per 100 km, respectively. These are CLTC-cycle figures rather than results from independent road testing, so they shouldn't be applied directly to winter driving or high-speed use.
According to CnEVPost, sales could start on August 10, 2026. However, Leapmotor hasn't confirmed that date through official channels yet, so it should be treated as preliminary until a price list and launch program are published.
Pre-orders are already open for a deposit of 99 yuan (about $14). This payment isn't the car's price — buyers get 5,000 brand loyalty points, and the automaker hasn't announced final pricing yet.
At 4,200 mm long, the A05 has a 2,605 mm wheelbase and a 474-liter boot. Folding the rear seats expands that to 1,308 liters, with a separate 91-liter compartment under the floor. That layout makes the hatchback useful for more than short city trips.
Standard equipment includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and a 12-speaker audio system. LiDAR is available as a paid option. Fast charging is said to take the battery from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes, though charger output hasn't been disclosed.
The A05 also needs to work as a volume seller. Leapmotor delivered 356,487 vehicles in the first half of the year, keeping its annual target of 1 million cars intact. Hitting that goal in the second half means averaging more than 107,000 deliveries a month, which makes the compact hatchback's eventual price just as important as its range.
