Genesis Recalls 42 G80 Sedans: Loose Ground Bolt Could Stall the Engine

Hyundai Motor America is recalling 42 gasoline Genesis G80 sedans from the 2027 model year over an ignition coil ground bolt that may not be properly tightened.
Hyundai Motor America has announced a recall of 42 Genesis G80 sedans from the 2027 model year. According to 32CARS.RU, citing the open NHTSA database, the vehicles may have an insufficiently tightened ground bolt in the ignition coil electrical circuit. A loss of contact can cause misfires, trigger the Check Engine light, and in rare cases stall the engine while driving.
The campaign was assigned NHTSA number 26V493 and Genesis' internal designation 034G. The official notice is dated July 31, 2026.
The recall covers gasoline G80 sedans built for the U.S. market between June 2 and June 5, 2026. The manufacturer estimates the defect rate at around 1%, but will inspect and repair all 42 vehicles in the potentially affected batch.
The cause was identified as an operator installation error. The investigation began after a report of a possible engine stall due to a loose ground connection. On July 23, Hyundai's North American safety committee decided to recall the entire batch.
Owners may notice the issue through an illuminated check engine light, rough running, or a loss of power. If misfires become pronounced, continuing to drive is not advisable: unstable power to the coils can lead to the engine stalling. NHTSA notes that a loss of power increases the risk of a crash.
No confirmed crashes, fires, or injuries have been reported in the U.S. Genesis dealers will inspect and retighten the connection to the specified torque free of charge, regardless of warranty status. The manufacturer will also reimburse reasonable expenses for owners who have already had the issue fixed on their own.
Owner notification letters are scheduled to go out on September 27, 2026, and VIN lookup has been available in the NHTSA database since July 31.
For a vehicle imported from the U.S. to another country, the VIN should be checked first. Terms for a free repair outside the U.S. Genesis dealer network should be arranged with the seller or importer.
