Tesla Model Y L Tested in Germany: Europe Launch Still Waiting on Approval

A Tesla Model Y L prototype has been caught testing in Germany, but a European launch date is still unclear as approval work continues.
Tesla Model Y L is already being tested in Germany, but that doesn’t confirm sales are imminent. A prototype of the stretched electric crossover was spotted at the Nürburgring, though the launch is still being held back by European type approval. Tesla itself hasn’t said anything about a technical or administrative snag.
The official specs of the Chinese version show why European families might want a Model Y L. It measures 4,976 mm long — 179 mm more than the standard Model Y. The wheelbase grows from 2,890 mm to 3,040 mm, and the six-seat cabin follows a 2+2+2 layout. There’s 420 liters of space left behind the third row.
The bigger body adds 96 kg: the all-wheel-drive Model Y L weighs 2,088 kg versus 1,992 kg for the regular five-seat version. That means testing could involve more than just certification — suspension tuning, stability and aerodynamics all need adjusting for European speeds.
32CARS.RU previously reported that Tesla was preparing the stretched Model Y L for a launch in the US. The car is now available outside China, but Tesla’s European sites still list only the regular Model Y.
Whether Europe gets a five- or seven-seat option remains a guess for now. Until Model Y L shows up in the official configurator, the test prototype confirms Tesla’s interest in the region — not a launch date, and not the reason behind the approval delay.
