Honda Prelude and Super-N: two very different cars, one strategy to stand out in Europe

Honda is betting on character over conformity in Europe, pairing the revived Prelude hybrid coupe with the affordable Super-N electric city car.
Honda wants to give European buyers a reason to pick its cars over yet another look-alike crossover. According to Autocar, the new strategy centres on distinctive models with real character: the revived hybrid coupe Prelude and the compact electric Super-N.
The Prelude has already reached European dealers. The coupe uses a twin-motor e:HEV hybrid system rated at 181bhp, and its S+ Shift function mimics an eight-speed gearbox, even though there's no conventional transmission with fixed gears under the skin. In the UK, the model starts at £40,995 — nearly the same as the rear-wheel-drive BMW 220i coupe, so it was never going to be a volume seller.
The other end of the strategy is the Super-N. The electric car, about 3.6 metres long, launches in the UK from £18,995. In normal mode the front motor produces 47kW, while Boost temporarily lifts output to 70kW, roughly 95bhp. Honda's claimed city range is 199 miles — around 320km — though the combined WLTP figure is noticeably more modest at 128 miles, or 206km.
The Super-N also gets a virtual seven-speed gearbox, synthetic engine sound and a wider track. None of these features add range, but they're meant to bring back the emotional appeal that the more rational Honda e lacked. For now the newcomer is confirmed only for the UK and select Asian markets; demand will help Honda decide whether to expand sales into continental Europe.
The timing looks sound. Over the first five months of 2026, hybrids took 37.8% of the EU market, with electric cars at 20%. Honda is simultaneously offering a hybrid for buyers not ready to give up petrol entirely and an affordable city EV, while steering clear of the overcrowded mid-size SUV segment.
For buyers, the strategy means more interesting models, but smaller production runs. Rare body parts, insurance and out-of-warranty repairs could end up pricier for both the Prelude and the Super-N. Neither model is officially confirmed for sale outside these markets for now.
