GM recalls 2025–2026 Equinox EV and Cadillac Optiq over Continental tire defect
GM recalls 2025–2026 Equinox EV and Cadillac Optiq over Continental CrossContact RX 275/40R21 tires (week 4024). Tread separation risk. Check 4024; free swap.
General Motors has announced a recall of 2025–2026 Chevrolet Equinox EVs over a potentially dangerous tire defect, and the action also extends to the Cadillac Optiq, which uses the same wheels.
The issue traces to Continental CrossContact RX 275/40R21 tires produced in week 4024 (October 2024). According to Continental, an incorrect rubber compound could lead to partial or complete tread separation, creating a risk of lost grip and a possible crash.
Roughly 19,232 Chevrolet Equinox EVs and 3,682 Cadillac Optiqs are included. The affected tires were fitted to RS versions, as well as LT1 and LT2 trims equipped with optional 21-inch wheels or the Convenience Package II (6K5).
GM has instructed certified technicians to verify the tire production date—a four-digit code on the sidewall—and to replace any tires marked 4024 at no charge. The production-date check is easy to spot on the sidewall, so owners can quickly tell whether their vehicle is affected.
Dealers were notified on October 16, and owner letters are slated to start going out on December 1, 2025. Owners are encouraged to check the code on their tires or contact a Chevrolet dealership to reference the GM recall number. With that mailing schedule, a quick look at the sidewalls now is the practical move.
