Nio Firefly Teases Halo: A New Design-Led Series, but Key Specs Stay Hidden

Nio Firefly Teases Halo Series Ahead of July 20 Reveal nio.com

Firefly will unveil the first Halo-series model on July 20 in Shanghai. So far the brand has shown only the paint, a glowing logo and the wheels — price and range remain unknown.

On July 20, Firefly will unveil the first model in its Halo design series. So far the brand has shown only the paint finish, a softly glowing logo and the wheels of the newcomer, so it’s too early to draw conclusions about the battery, range or price. The reveal will take place in Shanghai, and demo cars will start arriving at the brand’s Chinese showrooms the same day.

Halo will be Firefly’s first series built around design, materials and colour. The launch concept is called Inner Glow. Its blue-green tone is inspired by the glow of a firefly, and the softly lit emblem is meant to be one of the newcomer’s signature details.

The automaker’s statement doesn’t make clear whether this is a fully standalone model or a special trim of the Firefly EV already on sale. The manufacturer also hasn’t disclosed dimensions, battery type, power output, range or delivery timing. Until the presentation, it’s more accurate to treat Halo as a lineup extension rather than a confirmed new generation of the car.

Firefly currently sells a single compact model in China. It’s priced from 119,800 to 125,800 yuan. Under the BaaS battery-rental plan, the price drops to 79,800 yuan, though the battery itself isn’t included in that sum — owners pay for its use separately.

Since April 2025, the brand has delivered more than 70,000 cars to customers. Sales reached 6,946 units in June, and 29,172 cars for the first half of the year. The new series will let Firefly move beyond its single-model lineup, though buyers should wait for the full price list: special paint and trim can raise the price without changing the powertrain.

For markets outside China, the charging connector standard, software-update capability and BaaS terms will matter more than the design. The Chinese price with battery rental doesn’t reflect full ownership cost and shouldn’t be used as a benchmark for the price of the car with a battery included.
