Motor.es has published the first spy photos of the next Nivus. Built for Brazil on the MQB Evo platform, it borrows the nose of the new VW Tera and grows to about 4.3–4.4 m, while Europe keeps the related Taigo.

Volkswagen Nivus is getting a new generation — a crossover whose European counterpart is the closely related Taigo. Motor.es has published the first spy photos of an early test mule: on the outside it still wears parts from current models, but far more serious changes are hiding under the skin.

According to the outlet, the prototype has taken the front end from the new Volkswagen Tera, while the bumper and front fender mounts give away a reworked geometry. It looks like the future Nivus will be a touch wider and longer than today's model — the report mentions a length of roughly 4.3–4.4 m.

The main difference from the European Taigo isn't in the hardware but in the market strategy. The Taigo will stay on sale in Europe until early next decade, whereas the new Nivus is being developed primarily for Brazil and other South American countries. That's exactly where the model ranks among Volkswagen's key products, alongside the T-Cross.

The engineering side may change too. Brazilian media point to a switch from MQB A0 to MQB Evo, which would open the door to more modern engines and technologies. Among the possible options are an MHEV setup and a hybrid based on the 1.5 TSI Evo2, adapted to run on ethanol as well. There's no official confirmation of these specs yet.
