Nissan North America has filed a patent on an under-seat storage compartment designed for pickup trucks, with the bin staying fixed to the seat even as it adjusts position.

Nissan has filed a U.S. patent for a new pickup storage solution: a compact compartment tucked right under the passenger seat. The filing from Nissan North America drew attention from the American press — this isn’t a production option or a new model, but an engineering proposal for making better use of cabin space.

The idea is straightforward: a personal storage compartment sits below the seat, linked to it through a dedicated bracket. The seat itself can shift position, while the storage stays fixed relative to it. Access to the contents is preserved even when the seat is in its normal occupied position.

The solution fits pickups especially well. Drivers routinely haul tools, documents, gadgets, fasteners and other small items they’d rather not leave in the open bed. The under-seat tray puts otherwise dead space to work and keeps loose items from sliding around the cabin on the move.

There’s no confirmation yet that the system will show up in the Nissan Frontier, Titan, or any future compact pickup from the brand. Patents often serve only as defensive filings and never reach the assembly line.
