Jeep in Europe: Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are gone, the brand slides onto Stellantis platforms

Jeep no longer looks American in Europe: Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are gone jeep.com

Jeep's European range now leans on Avenger, Renegade and the new Compass — all closely tied to Stellantis platforms shared with Peugeot, Opel, Citroen and DS.

Jeep is, for most people, shorthand for American off-roaders — but in Europe the line-up has become something quite different. Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, the last two models that openly carried the brand’s classic American image, have left the European catalogue.

The European range now rests on Avenger, Renegade and Compass. All three are tied to the European side of Stellantis. The Avenger sits on the same technical base as the Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka and DS 3. The Renegade is a close cousin of the Fiat 500X, while the new Compass has moved onto the STLA Medium platform.

It is the Compass that really seals the shift. The model shares most of its hardware with the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, Opel Grandland, Citroen C5 Aircross and DS N°8. Jeep still tries to hold on to a brand identity through styling, the trademark seven-slot grille and an off-road image, but technically the car is now part of the wider European family inside the group.

This is a European story, yet it reads as a clear market signal. Even brands with a strong heritage like Jeep are now sliding into shared local platforms, compact SUVs and electrification in Europe. For buyers it means less “old school” and more standardised Stellantis engineering.
