Alpine eyes the US again: the quick launch plan has fallen through

Renault's sporty brand hasn't closed the American project, but the 2027 launch is on hold over tariffs, EV uncertainty and costs. A new A110 may take centre stage.
French brand Alpine is back in the spotlight over its plans to enter the US market. The Renault-owned marque hasn't shut the American project down, but the original launch schedule has effectively been put on pause. Initially, Alpine was aiming to enter the US around 2027, yet that timeline has slipped.
The main reasons are tariffs, uncertainty around electric vehicles and the overall cost of launching a new brand in North America. In 2025, Renault CFO Duncan Minto stated bluntly that now isn't the right time to spend money on a US push. The company also held talks with AutoNation to line up a sales partner, but the expansion proved too risky against the backdrop of tariffs and shifting EV demand.
Alpine's American strategy was initially tied to electric crossovers that would have squared up against the Porsche Macan EV and Cayenne. Now it's emerged that the brand is still working on a US entry, but the spotlight may also land on the next-generation A110. That's a meaningful pivot: for Alpine fans, the marque isn't just about crossovers — first and foremost it stands for a light sports coupe, which has long remained a “forbidden fruit” for American buyers.
