Mercedes is preparing an AMG version of the electric C-Class to take on the BMW i3 M and Tesla Model 3 Performance. New spy shots show the prototype testing.
The upcoming electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class will get a hot AMG version. According to Dutch media, which published fresh spy shots of the prototype, the car is set to become one of the main rivals to the future BMW i3 M and Tesla Model 3 Performance.
Even the regular electric C-Class already looks impressive on paper. The C 400 4Matic version comes with two electric motors and 489 hp. Less powerful trims will sit below it, while the AMG variant will crown the lineup. Exact figures aren’t public yet, but the publication is confident the newcomer won’t fall short of the current Mercedes-AMG C 63 plug-in hybrid with its 680 hp.
At the same time, don’t expect extreme numbers on the level of the electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, which claims 1,169 hp — the electric C-Class is unlikely to come anywhere near that figure. The point of the AMG version isn’t setting records but fighting for buyers of fast mid-size electric sedans, a segment BMW and Tesla are already actively working.
