Cape Advanced Vehicles unveils the GT Mk II, an 800-hp restomod inspired by the Ford GT40 and powered by a twin-supercharged 4.2-litre Audi V8. Only 40 will be built.
South Africa’s Cape Advanced Vehicles has revealed the CAV GT Mk II — a modern supercar inspired by the Ford GT40. It is not a factory Ford and not a faithful copy of the 1960s racer, but a restomod with unmistakable proportions, modern hardware and a strictly limited run. The debut is timed to the 60th anniversary of Ford’s 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans in 1966.
The real story sits beneath the skin. CAV has taken the 4.2-litre Audi V8 from the first-generation Audi R8, reworked it heavily and bolted on a pair of centrifugal superchargers. Output is quoted at 800 hp at 7,800 rpm, with the redline set at 9,000 rpm. Peak torque comes in at 880 Nm. The car also gets all-wheel drive, six power modes and a choice of three transmissions: a standard six-speed single-clutch semi-automatic, a dual-clutch alternative or a true manual.
On paper the CAV GT Mk II sits much closer to a modern supercar than to a classic replica. Claimed kerb weight is 1,347 kg, 0–100 km/h takes around 3 seconds and top speed is 328 km/h. Equipment includes KW Variant 4 adjustable dampers, Brembo brakes, optional carbon-ceramic discs and an Inconel exhaust with active valves.
Production will be capped at 40 cars — a nod to the GT40 name. Twenty of them will wear Miles Blue paint with an orange-and-gold livery. The open question is whether the GT Mk II stays a collector’s curiosity or marks a new chapter for CAV, a company that has spent years building more traditional GT40 restomods.
