Genesis GV70 Hybrid 2027: prototype spotted with an HEV badge — what we know

Genesis GV70 Hybrid 2027: a key test for the Korean brand in Europe motor.es

Genesis has begun testing the GV70 Hybrid 2027. A 2.5-liter turbo, P1+P2 motors, possibly an EREV setup with up to 900 km range. World premiere — December 2026.

Genesis has begun testing the new GV70 Hybrid 2027 — a crossover that could become the brand’s most important model in Europe. After a misfire on the bet on expensive cars without mass-market hybrid versions, the Korean premium player is changing course: buyers want more than just an EV, they want a clear cruising range without the fear of running out of charge.

The prototype has been caught in heavy camouflage at two test grounds at once — in South Korea and southern Spain, with an HEV sticker clearly visible on the rear window. The signature Genesis Crest Grille is still up front, though the pattern inside has changed to double diamonds. At the rear, the giveaway is two exhaust tips tucked into the bumper and pointing downward. The same trick has already been spotted on the Genesis G80 Hybrid test mule.

Genesis is staying quiet on the technical side. According to Korean sources, the GV70 could get a 2.5-liter turbo paired with two electric motors (P1+P2) — the same setup that recently debuted on the new Hyundai Palisade. But there’s a more intriguing scenario on the table — an EREV, essentially a plug-in hybrid where the combustion engine works only as a generator. In that case, the figures floating around are up to 200 km on electric power and up to 900 km of total range without refueling.

For Europe, this is more than just another variant. Genesis has been promising expansion for a while, Spain included, but competing with BMW, Audi and Mercedes without hybrids is tough: premium SUV buyers want power, refinement and efficiency, yet they aren’t always ready to depend fully on the charging network. The standard GV70 has been on the market for six years now, and the hybrid could be its first truly major turning point.

The premiere is expected in December 2026. If Genesis goes ahead and brings the GV70 Hybrid to Europe, it will be a test not just of the car but of the brand’s whole strategy: good looks aren’t enough anymore, the market now wants fuel economy and range.
