Volkswagen has opened pre-orders for the next evolutionary step of the Bulli — the updated Multivan and California. The models get a reworked front with new LED lighting, a digital cockpit, an improved Travel Assist and a Generation special edition with exclusive equipment and a two-tone Candy White / Sunset Red Metallic finish.

The biggest changes are inside. The dashboard has been completely redesigned with higher-quality surfaces and decorative stitching. The digital instrument cluster offers three different display modes, while the central infotainment screen has grown to 12.9 inches, with a new menu structure and refreshed graphics. Below it sit illuminated touch sliders for audio and climate, and the DSG gear selector has moved to the right steering-column stalk — just like on the ID. Buzz.

Travel Assist has also been upgraded. For the first time, the system can recognise traffic lights and perform assisted lane changes on the motorway. The electric parking climate control now runs for up to eight hours non-stop. As a camper, the California retains its classic auxiliary heater for longer stays.

There are smaller touches too: wireless smartphone charging, more powerful USB ports, a grab handle on the passenger side and new seat options. For the first time, memory and massage functions are available for the front passenger seat, paired with the optional AGR Ergo Comfort chairs. The Multivan also gets a revised seating layout: the eight-seater version now offers a Vis-a-vis configuration, with two rows of three seats facing each other. In Germany, the Multivan Trend starts at 57,465 euros, while the California is priced from 66,087 euros.
