Stellantis recalls 1.3 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator over fire risk A. Krivonosov

Faulty power steering pump wiring may overheat and spark a fire. Owners are urged to park away from buildings until the fix is ready.

Stellantis has launched a major recall covering Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models from the 2021–2025 model years. The campaign affects more than 1.3 million SUVs and pickups worldwide, and owners are being advised to park their vehicles away from buildings and other cars until a fix is ready.

The problem lies in an electrical connection in the wiring of the electric hydraulic power steering pump. In rare cases, the fault can cause combustible materials near the unit to overheat and eventually catch fire. For the Wrangler and Gladiator, that is an awkward scenario: these vehicles often live in garages, on tightly packed lots and right next to other cars.

The bulk of the recall lands on the United States — nearly 1.08 million vehicles. Another 106,000 are in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico, and around 125,000 in other markets. Stellantis has reported one possible injury linked to the defect, but no crashes or fatalities have been recorded.

The repair will depend on the condition of each specific vehicle. Dealers are expected to inspect the wiring and, if needed, repair or replace the harness, along with the electric hydraulic power steering pump itself. The company expects the remedy to be ready no later than July.
