Toyota updates the Alphard for Japan: the plug-in hybrid expands to the Z grade, the HEV adds a G trim, plus a new color and frequency-reactive dampers.
Toyota has updated the Alphard for the Japanese market and expanded its hybrid lineup. The big news: the PHEV is now available in the Z grade. Previously, the plug-in hybrid was offered only in the pricier Executive Lounge trim.
The Alphard Z PHEV doesn’t just get a different powertrain — it gets a near-flagship package: 19-inch wheels, a steering wheel with genuine wood trim, separate twin sunroofs, an Ultrasuede headliner, wireless charging, and a 14-inch infotainment screen. The focus stays on the second row: Executive Power Seats with powered backrest, ottomans, heating, and ventilation.

The HEV versions get a new G grade. It includes three-section LED headlights, fog lamps, power adjustment for the front seats, a 14-inch screen, a panoramic view with a “see-through” display of the area beneath the vehicle, and parking brake control that watches for obstacles, cars, and pedestrians behind. The cabin is offered in seven- and eight-seat layouts: the seven-seater leans into separate second-row chairs, while the eight-seater goes for a more practical arrangement.
The refresh touches the whole range. A new Neutral Black color joins the Alphard palette, and frequency-reactive dampers are now fitted across every version — meant to improve ride quality, which matters most in a minivan bought for its rear-seat passengers.
Toyota didn’t reinvent the Alphard. Instead, it doubled down on what people choose it for: second-row comfort, hybrid powertrains, and the feel of a high-end personal car.
