Nissan Kicks recall: 51,598 crossovers in the US lose their dashboard display

Nissan recalls 51,598 Kicks crossovers over a blank dashboard glitch D.Novikov

A software bug in the instrument cluster can turn the screen blue or blank on a cold start. The fix takes around 30 minutes at the dealer.

Nissan is recalling 51,598 Kicks crossovers from the 2025 and 2026 model years in the United States. The issue has nothing to do with the engine or the brakes, but it’s the kind of fault a driver notices straight away: at cold start the instrument cluster screen may go partially or fully dark.

The root cause sits in the software logic of the combination meter. An error disrupts communication between the graphic controller and the automotive controller, after which the screen can turn blue or go completely blank. With nothing on the cluster, the driver risks losing sight of the speed, warning lamps and other key alerts. NHTSA notes that the affected cars do not meet the requirements of FMVSS 101, the standard covering controls and displays.

The recall covers Kicks units built between June 24, 2024 and January 9, 2026 at the Nissan plant in Aguascalientes. Other Nissan and Infiniti models are not affected, the company says. Nissan logged 7 technical reports and 205 warranty claims, with no crashes or injuries linked to the fault.

The fix is simple: dealers will update the combination meter software through CONSULT IV free of charge. The job takes around 30 minutes. Dealers were notified on May 22, and owner letters start going out on July 1, 2026. Nissan’s internal campaign number is PMA66.

Nissan also notes that a countermeasure entered production on January 16, 2026, and the updated software was validated over more than 375 hours at temperatures from −40 to +80 °C.

For buyers, this is a quiet reminder that even an affordable crossover now depends on software just as much as on mechanics. With a dark cluster, the car still drives, but the driver loses part of the picture.
