Nissan revives the NV200 as a PHEV off-road MPV. New spy shots reveal a nearly production-ready prototype with hybrid and AWD, launching Q3 2026.

Nissan is gearing up to revive the NV200, but the new model no longer looks like a simple urban van. Fresh spy shots have surfaced in China, and the debut is expected in the third quarter of 2026.

The project is being handled by Zhengzhou Nissan, a joint venture between Nissan and Dongfeng. Back in late 2025, the company teased the model, describing it as a PHEV mild off-road MPV — essentially a hybrid van with a light off-road bias. Now the prototype appears nearly production-ready, with Zhengzhou Nissan badges at the rear, new lighting, and a decorative crossbar inspired by the Frontier Pro pickup.

The biggest question mark is the powertrain. According to the data we have, the new NV200 could feature a plug-in hybrid system and optional all-wheel drive. A likely setup is an electric motor on the rear axle without a classic driveshaft, preserving space for the battery and cabin while adding traction on rough roads. Sources in China also mention a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine and a 1.2-liter e-Power system, but there's no official confirmation yet.

The old NV200 was sold in China from 2010 to 2018, with five- and seven-seat configurations, a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine, and front-wheel drive. The new van aims to cover more ground: work, family, travel, and the trendy vanlife concept. For Nissan, this is an opportunity to re-enter a segment where price, reliability, and practicality matter more than brand prestige.

If the NV200 indeed gets a hybrid and all-wheel drive, it will no longer be just a delivery van. That would be a bid to become a tiny home on wheels for China.
