Opel Confirms Next Corsa, New SUV with Leapmotor Collaboration

Opel Outlines Plans: Next-Gen Corsa, Astra, and Leapmotor SUV media.stellantis.com

Opel reveals its future plans including the next Corsa and Astra, plus a dedicated C-segment SUV built with Leapmotor. The Manta is missing from the 2030 roadmap.

Opel has outlined some of its upcoming plans as part of a major Stellantis announcement. Opel CEO Florian Huettl confirmed the next-generation Corsa is on the way. The new Corsa will ride on the STLA One platform, meaning both combustion and fully electric versions are in the pipeline.

Alongside the Corsa, the plans also include the next Astra and a dedicated C-segment SUV. This crossover won't simply be a rebodied Astra; instead, Opel is developing it in collaboration with Chinese automaker Leapmotor. Sources indicate the new model will be developed in just two years and built alongside the Leapmotor B10. It's highly likely that the future Opel will share technical underpinnings with that vehicle.

The big question mark is the absence of the Opel Manta. As recently as late 2024, Huettl stated the project was delayed but not canceled. Yet in the latest roadmap through 2030, the Manta doesn't appear. The Opel CEO had previously admitted to Der Spiegel that he doesn't expect the model before 2030.

Opel and Stellantis' European strategy underscores a broader trend: legacy European brands are increasingly turning to Chinese partnerships to accelerate the launch of new models, including those slated for 2026 and beyond.
