The Most Reliable Premium Crossovers Under $45,000
The Lexus UX is the most reliable premium crossover under $45,000, according to Consumer Reports. The Mini Countryman, BMW X1/X2, and Acura ADX are also top picks for comfort and value. Learn more.
Premium crossovers don't have to be expensive toys with finicky electronics. In the under-$45,000 segment, there are models that blend comfort with solid reliability.
Taking the top spot is the Lexus UX. Consumer Reports gives it a predicted reliability score of 67 out of 100, and it starts at $38,550 in the US. What really sets this model apart is its Toyota-sourced engineering: a hybrid powertrain that's not overboosted, strong fuel economy, and minimal complaints about the engine, brakes, and key components. Admittedly, the UX isn't the roomiest or most engaging to drive, but it delivers the relaxed ownership experience and quality interior that make Lexus a used-market favorite.
Second is the Mini Countryman with a score of 60 out of 100 and a base price of $38,900. It's pricier than many similarly sized rivals, but makes up for it with distinctive design, a more spacious cabin, and a BMW-derived platform. The downside is the infotainment system: owners report lag, and the reduction of physical buttons for essential functions.

The BMW X1 and X2 each scored 59 points. They share the same underpinnings: a 2.0-liter turbo engine, familiar electronics, and the latest BMW platform. The X1 is more practical, while the X2 looks sportier but compromises cargo space and visibility. Weak points include occasional electrical glitches and recalls related to seat belts and brakes.
Rounding out the list is the Acura ADX with a score of 54 points and a starting price of $35,000. It's cheaper than most rivals, roomy, and pleasant to drive, but its 1.5-liter turbo engine and CVT won't be to everyone's taste. Most gripes center on the infotainment system and smartphone connectivity.
The takeaway for buyers is straightforward: In this class, reliability often stems from proven mass-market hardware rather than luxury trappings. So the Lexus UX comes across as the most worry-free option, the BMW offers more driving engagement, the Mini has the most personality, and the Acura gives the best value for the money.
