Ford Ranger PHEV named Parkers Pickup of the Year as UK sales stumble

Ford Ranger PHEV wins Parkers Pickup of the Year for its quiet hybrid power, 697 Nm torque and 3.5t towing, yet UK demand slips, prompting Ford to cut output.

The Ford Ranger PHEV has taken home the prestigious Pickup of the Year title from the respected UK publication Parkers.

The plug-in hybrid setup drew critics’ attention for the right reasons: an electric motor paired with a 2.3-liter gasoline engine makes the truck remarkably hushed on the move, and peak torque is rated at 697 Nm.

It also deals confidently with a one-tonne payload and can tow up to 3.5 tonnes. Its low emissions strengthen the case, appealing to anyone who wants efficiency without giving up power.

Yet despite those headline figures, real-world Ranger PHEV sales in the UK lagged far behind the original plan. The reporting period recorded a steep drop in demand, forcing Ford to revisit its production strategy and trim output of this specification. It’s a revealing contrast: awards recognize the formula, while the market still needs convincing.
