BMW winds down X4 as electric iX4 approaches 2025 launch
BMW will end X4 production at Spartanburg, pivoting to the all-electric iX4, a sleeker iX3-based coupe-SUV for 2025 with up to 450-mile range and an M version.
BMW is officially winding down the X4—the coupe-SUV found itself squeezed between the refreshed X2 and the larger X6. Production will wrap up at the Spartanburg plant by the end of this month, but fans of coupe-crossover shapes have little to worry about. The brand is preparing a fully electric iX4, built on the new iX3 and aimed at the 2025 market and beyond. The decision reads like a neat cleanup of overlap in the lineup.
The iX4 prototype has already been captured by photographers: the car looks ready for production and wears its final lighting. Up front, the crossover mirrors the iX3, and from the middle of the body the roofline sweeps back with more intent. The profile is sleeker than today’s X4, with a tidy spoiler at the base of the rear glass. Expect the standard M Sport package along with a few unique trim accents.
Technically, the iX4 will be close to the iX3. With the base version offering up to 400 miles of range, the iX4’s more aerodynamic body could approach 450. An iX3 M with around 800 hp has been spotted in development, which points to a similar variant for the iX4.
