Toyota bZ4X Beats EPA Range by 17 Miles in Edmunds Test
The refreshed Toyota bZ4X outperforms EPA range with 331 miles in Edmunds test, thanks to a larger battery and better efficiency. Real-world test result.
Toyota’s updated bZ4X—now simply called the Toyota bZ in the U.S.—has proven stronger in the real world than on paper. In an Edmunds test, the electric crossover covered 331 miles, easily surpassing its EPA-rated range of 314 miles. That translates to roughly 533 kilometers versus 505 km.
The refresh brings a larger battery. Toyota says some trims get a 74.7‑kWh pack good for an EPA range of up to 314 miles, while the base front‑drive XLE uses a 57.7‑kWh unit.
Edmunds ran the test with a 60‑percent city and 40‑percent highway mix, making the result more relevant to daily driving than a laboratory figure. Observed consumption was 14.48 kWh per 100 km, which is better than the official EPA estimate.
Toyota is gradually sharpening its electric crossover for a market that increasingly compares EVs by range, price, and charging convenience rather than image. What matters now is not one successful test, but whether owners and independent reviewers see similar numbers across different weather conditions.
