Renault unveils commercial versions of the Twingo and R4 EVs but delays UK launch, citing limited demand. New Trafic e-Tech van features 270-mile range and fast charging.

Renault has unveiled commercial versions of its compact electric vehicles, the Twingo and R4, but their launch in the UK has been delayed. These models belong to the urban EV segment but are currently targeting other markets.

The Renault 4 van was first shown in France, while the Twingo variant, which replaces the rear seats with a cargo compartment, was developed for the energy company EDF. Despite interest in the models, no decision has been made on a UK release.

According to Renault UK head Adam Wood, the company is assessing the prospects of the compact van segment. He noted that demand for such vehicles is limited but did not rule out a potential future launch.

Renault's main focus is on the new electric Trafic e-Tech van. It features an 800-volt architecture, a range of up to 270 miles (approximately 435 km), and the ability to charge from 15 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes.

In the compact commercial EV segment, Renault already offers the Dacia Spring Cargo. However, competition is intensifying; for instance, Leapmotor is preparing a more affordable electric van, the T03 LCV. Overall, the launch of the new Twingo and R4 variants hinges on market demand and the company's strategy in the coming years.
