Next-Gen Audi RS6 to Debut in 2026 with Hybrid Powertrain Options

Audi RS6 will go hybrid in 2026, choosing between a V6 from the RS5 or a Bentley-derived V8. Both options deliver huge power, with the V8 target over 570 kW. Previewed as a wagon and sedan.

Audi is actively developing the next generation of the RS6, set to debut in late 2026 with sales beginning in 2027. The key shift is a move toward hybrid powertrains, though the final decision between a V6 and V8 has not yet been made.

Audi Sport boss Rolf Michl told Carsales Australia that the company is considering two options. The first is an evolution of the hybrid setup from the RS5, featuring a 2.9-liter V6 and an electric motor. This system already delivers 470 kW and 825 Nm, making it one of the most powerful in its segment. The alternative is a more potent hybrid based on Bentley's 4.0-liter V8, with total output potentially reaching 575 kW and around 1000 Nm. That would secure the model's flagship status and preserve the signature character of the RS6.

Audi emphasizes that the new RS6 will not be a copy of the RS5. Instead, it will retain its role as a powerful and comfortable long-distance car, blending high performance with practicality.

Advanced chassis technologies are expected, including adaptive air suspension and active roll stabilization. The RS6 will also remain one of the few sporty wagons that combine dynamics with everyday usability.

The next-generation RS6 will be available not only as a wagon but also as a sedan. It will be slightly larger than the RS5, reinforcing its position in the lineup. The premiere is set for late 2026, with sales starting in 2027.
