The Ford Mustang GTD Competition has set a new Nürburgring record for production American cars with a time of 6:40.835, beating rivals and featuring upgraded power and aerodynamics.

The Ford Mustang GTD Competition has set a new Nürburgring record for production American cars, clocking a time of 6:40.835. This beats the Corvette ZR1X by 8 seconds and improves on the previous Mustang GTD's best by 11 seconds.

After Chevrolet briefly took the lead with its ZR1 and ZR1X models, Ford returned to the track with an updated Mustang. The result puts the company back on top among American cars on the Nordschleife.

The Competition version features an upgraded 5.2-liter supercharged V8 that produces more than the standard 815 horsepower. Weight reduction comes from magnesium wheels, carbon-fiber seats, and lighter suspension components. Additional aerodynamic elements increase downforce, while new tires enhance track grip.

Ford plans to release a limited series of road-going Mustang GTD Competition models with similar upgrades. These will be sold in strictly limited numbers and are likely to cost significantly more than the base version's price of around $327,000.

The Nürburgring remains a battleground for technological rivalry between Ford and Chevrolet. This new Mustang GTD record shows the race for supremacy continues, with the gap between American supercars shrinking to minimal—and increasingly critical—margins.
