Chinese automaker Chery unveils its new Lepas brand in Europe, featuring the electric/hybrid L6 and hybrid L8 SUVs, expanding its market presence and competing in the growing EV and hybrid segment.

Chinese automaker Chery is launching a new brand called Lepas in the European market. The unveiling took place in Milan, where two models were showcased: the compact crossover L6 and the larger L8.

The Lepas L6 will be available with either a fully electric powertrain or as a plug-in hybrid. The electric version features a 67 kWh battery pack and can travel up to 435 km on a single charge. The hybrid variant, which combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, claims a total range of up to 1,125 km.

The larger L8 model is an SUV measuring about 4.75 meters in length and will be offered exclusively as a plug-in hybrid. Technically, it shares similarities with the Chery Tiggo 8.

For now, the specific timing for Lepas's rollout across individual European markets remains undisclosed. This move expands Chery's presence, as the company already promotes other brands in Europe. The introduction of Lepas intensifies competition among Chinese automakers in Europe, where interest in hybrid and electric models is growing.
