Ford removes standard SecuriCode keyless entry from 2027 Expedition Tremor and Platinum trims, making it optional. Learn about updates and market trends.

Ford is continuing to adjust the standard equipment on its models, and this time the changes have affected one of the brand's most recognizable features. The 2027 Ford Expedition will no longer come with the standard SecuriCode keyless entry system in certain trims.

This refers to the brand's signature exterior keypad, which has been a hallmark of Ford for many years. It allowed drivers to unlock the vehicle without a key by entering a code—a simple and convenient solution, especially for active users. That is now changing.

In the Tremor and Platinum versions, the system is no longer standard equipment. However, it hasn't been eliminated entirely: SecuriCode will be available as a paid option or as part of select packages. The top-tier King Ranch trim remains the exception, where the feature continues to be standard.

This move reflects a broader market trend where manufacturers are increasingly making familiar features optional to manage vehicle pricing and positioning more flexibly. The functions themselves don't disappear but become part of packages or options.

Beyond this, the 2027 Expedition has received other updates. Rear-wheel-drive versions are returning to the lineup, the list of safety options is expanding, and new exterior colors and a 30th-anniversary package are being introduced. Against this backdrop, the removal of standard SecuriCode appears to be a small but symbolic change—particularly for brand loyalists who have come to see this feature as a must-have.

Ford is gradually moving away from the unique selling points that once defined its vehicles. SecuriCode is more than just an option; it's part of the brand's DNA. When such elements are removed from the base offering, it can influence brand perception as much as changes to design or technology.
