Learn about the Volga revival with K50 and C50 models, set for production in 2026 at a former Volkswagen plant, marking a shift in Russia's automotive industry.

The revival of the Volga brand with the K50 and C50 models has caught the attention of the international press. Experts view the launch as a significant step in the transformation of Russia's automotive industry following the departure of Western companies.

Carscoops notes that the return of Volga symbolizes major changes in the sector. Production will be set up at the former Volkswagen plant in Nizhny Novgorod, which previously assembled Skoda and VW models.

As previously reported by Russian experts, the Volga C50 sedan is structurally similar to the Geely Preface, while the K50 crossover mirrors the Geely Monjaro. The differences come down to design and adaptations for the local market, including a winter package and integration of Russian services into the multimedia system.

Production is set to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with initial dealer deliveries scheduled for the third quarter. The plant's projected capacity is up to 110,000 vehicles per year. There are also plans for exports, primarily to CIS countries.

Overall, the new Volga models are seen as products of a transitional period, blending a Chinese platform with Russian adaptations. The project's success will hinge on pricing, the quality of localization, and market demand for new vehicles in 2026.
