GMC ends Sierra 1500 Double Cab April 2, 2026; next-gen brings T1-2 platform, new Small Block engines, a plug-in hybrid, and familiar diesel and 2.7T.

GMC has announced it will end production of the current-generation Sierra 1500 Double Cab. Assembly will cease on April 2, 2026, at the company’s Fort Wayne, U.S., and Silao, Mexico, plants—a tidy wrap-up as the brand resets for the next chapter.

The 2026 model year will be the last for GMC’s current light-duty pickups before a new version arrives as part of the 2026 lineup. The next-generation Sierra 1500 is set to adopt the updated T1-2 platform and a substantially revised design, signaling a cleaner, more contemporary direction without straying from the truck’s roots.

The headline changes focus on the powertrain range: a new generation of Small Block gasoline engines promising improved performance and efficiency. The 3.0-liter Duramax diesel and the 2.7-liter turbo will remain in the mix, and a plug-in hybrid variant will join them. It’s a pragmatic blend that adds an electrified option while keeping familiar choices alive.
