Ford recalls 55 vehicles for HVAC system issue that could disable defrosting
Ford recalls 55 Explorer and Lincoln Aviator vehicles from 2026 due to HVAC failure, which may disable windshield heating and defrosting, posing safety risks.
Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of 55 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator vehicles from the 2026 model year in the United States. The recall addresses a potential HVAC system failure that could disable windshield heating and defrosting, compromising visibility and increasing the risk of an accident.
According to an analysis of NHTSA documents by 32CARS, the issue stems from dashboard panel fasteners and electrical ground connections that may not have been tightened to specification. A loose connection can cause the heating and air conditioning fan to fail. Without a functioning fan, the defrost system becomes ineffective, which directly impacts safety in poor weather conditions.
The recall affects Explorer models, including the Police Interceptor Utility, and Lincoln Aviator vehicles from the 2026 model year. These vehicles were manufactured at the Chicago plant between October 2025 and January 2026. Dealers are required to inspect and tighten the dashboard panel fasteners, including the HVAC ground connections, before delivering the vehicles to customers. If necessary, bolts will be replaced with new ones and torqued to the exact specifications outlined in the technical instructions.
This is a limited recall involving only 55 vehicles, but federal law prohibits the sale of new cars until the defect is corrected. Owner notifications are scheduled to begin in April 2026.
